Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Tuesday 18.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Naturally released large wet avalanches may occur due to rising temperatures and rain. Use caution in steep terrain with wind slabs in the alpine.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 17. January 2022

Mountain weather

Monday 17. January 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during the evening. Gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during renoon. -11 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 18. January 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Moderate gale from southwest. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mildvær og regn gir fare for naturlig utløste våte flakskred og løssnøskred under mildværsgrensa.
